Targa Florio 2012

The Targa Florio is a historic automobile race that was held in the mountains of Sicily, Italy and was one of the oldest and most prestigious endurance races in the world. The race was first organized in 1906 by the wealthy Sicilian industrialist Vincenzo Florio and his brother Ignazio Florio.

The race originally covered a circuit of about 92 miles (148 km) and was known for its challenging and varied terrain, including winding mountain roads and unpredictable weather conditions. The route passed through several towns and villages, creating a unique and demanding course for drivers.

The Targa Florio gained international recognition and attracted top racing teams and drivers. It became a part of various racing championships over the years, including the World Sportscar Championship. The race underwent multiple modifications to its format and circuit throughout its history.

The Targa Florio continued to be held annually until 1977 when safety concerns and changes in racing regulations led to its cancellation. The race left a lasting legacy in the world of motorsports, and its name is still associated with endurance and historic racing events. Although the original Targa Florio is no longer held, there have been numerous revivals and commemorative events to celebrate its history and significance in the racing world.
